MO was originally written and maintained by the same guy who wrote Vortex. He left MO and started Vortex for Nexus Mods which (Vortex) Replaced NMM as the Nexus Mods Official Mod Manager.
many of those who have been using NMM for years and are comfortable with it kept using it although it is no longer supported by Nexus however it is Community Supported.
Vortex and MO2 both do basically the same thing so it’s your choice.
I use Vortex for the past few years and have built many medium to large load order builds with it. My current game is 532 mods and runs smooth as silk using Vortex mostly because it’s no longer in BETA and has become a very powerful mod manager.
Those are the facts. You’ll get confused if you listen to users defend their choice of Mod Manager.
You know the «my dad can beat-up your dad type thing. lol. People are still echoing things that were said about Vortex wayyyy back when it was in Alpha. MO2 and Vortex are both are great.
Do OP use Community supported NMM or one old one?
If so he needs to check if that issue is reported for it.
It have also not get any update for one year on Nexus, but there seems to be stuff on Github.
If he uses the old not longer supported NMM he needs to swap to Vortex or MO2.
It does not support the new API that Nexus uses.

Yeah NMM was doing this to me the other day. NMM is old and out-dated. I still use it because i’m not going reinstall all of the mods into a new mod manager. Use MO2 or vortex instead.
Sounds to me like SinsterSoul is on the same page as you asael.carias, you and many people who did not want to go through that process. That’s your call. I know as of about a year ago people still had is same dilemma which by the way you will be faced with regardless of what manager you choose mid-loadorder. Saves will be fine, mod managers usually don’t mess with save files but that is not the problem and I understand. You can check with tannin and pickysaurus and a few others over in the Nexus Vortex Forums and ask if Vortex added a new feature in the last year (they have added countless updates to Vortex as you would expect from a Mod Manager that back then was just coming out of Beta) but I doubt there has been a change for transferring your mods other than the way you don’t want..
So I would wait until if and when you start another SSE load order, then pick a mod manager or stick with the community supported NMM. I really am not up on the transfer load order thing because I simply make a brand new load order at the drop of a hat say for example when I start a new game let alone if I was changing mod managers. But in the end there is no right or wrong when it comes to your game. I’ve seen too many people do exactly as you are suggesting for exactly the same reason.

well you just may be able to help asael out as that is exactly the type thinking he or anyone else deserves. it’s just that I have zero experience transferring an in progress load order to a new mod manager. I always start a clean vanilla reinstall even when it may not seem needed.
Asael, if I remember right, when I swapped over from Vortex to MO2, I completely done a clean vanilla build, so get rid of everything SSE related, think someone provided a guide on how to do so earlier.
When you install Vortex, if memory serves, it will ask you if you want NMM profile ported over, if your mod build is stable, bring it across, and enable plugins, sort out the dependencies, most of the time, you can just use the suggested parameters, other times, you will have to use your noggin to figure out dependencies so things do not conflict.
Deploy the mods, and then run Loot, personally I never bothered with the inbuilt Loot tool as it does not get updated as much as the standalone Loot, and then build your tools like FNIS, Bodyslide and whatever else you use into the tools section of Vortex, run and if your mod build is fine, then it will work, if not then you will need to tweak it.
So i got another problem, this time is when i click to download with manager an error message appears saying «Unrecognized Game Mode: skyrimspecialedition» and its a SE mod, and associate with nexus mods url is turned on, so i don’t know why this is happening?

This bs gets on my nerves and it’s been like that for years now.
I’ve scanned for Skyrim many times and Nexus always see it, and I click the green check mark to confirm it, and Nexus launches just fine. However, whenever I try to download mod from nexus website by clickign the green «DOWNLOAD WITH MANAGER» button, this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ issue error pops up everytime.
What causes it and how I prevent it from happening?? I tried to reinstall nexus but that didn’t work either.
You are hitting in to a well known issue, which is never fully solved. There are plenty of possible solutions around the internet, mostly related to installing NMM to another location.
However, NMM is breathing on community support updates, while developers have abandoned it entirely. Everyone is working with Vortex and waiting for it come out, so this bug will unlikely remain unsolved.
I also hit in to that issue once. I solved it by uninstalling NMM, clearing obsolete registry entries with CCleaner and reinstalling NMM. I also made sure that there were no obsolete NMM versions in my hard drive.
Other than that, it is very hard to give reliable response, when devs themselves never managed to fully solve the issue.
Edit: I am downloading all mods manually anyway, instead of using the Download with NMM option in Nexus.

NMM; Unrecognized game mode.
Hello, I’m having trouble getting the Mod Manager to work.
It scans for games, detects the ones I’ve got(Skyrim, New Vegas) and its setting them to the right location, opening both of them fine, but when I try to download a Skyrim mod with it, I get an error saying;
«Unrecognized Game Mode
Nexus Mod Manager is not set up to work with Skyrim. If Skyrim is installed, rescan for installed games from the change game toolbar item.»
I do that, and it opens the mod manager just fine, but when I try to download anything, I get the same error again.
It worked fine a few days ago when I installed SkyUI, and it still works for installing New Vegas mods, but not for Skyrim.
And before you say it, its not a pirated copy, I can message you with my steam account if I have to.

Verifying my cache found and reacquired 1 file, but didn’t fix the problem.
And my location is
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim
Backup NMM’s mod folder just in case.
-becuase if a simple reinstall did not work
-you will entirely remove NMM
-You’ll check the ADD/REMOVE Programs feature of your version of Windows and remove the program there next
Though I don’t see what it did differently, it linked to the same location and I even updated to the latest version earlier.
I have the unrecognized game mode. I tried to switch to Fallout 3, but forgot I uninstalled it a while ago (d’oh!), but now that I’ve re-installed, and try to open NMM, I get the Unrecognized Game Mode error box, and it asks me to «rescan for installed games from the Change Game toolbar item», and when I click OK it just closes and doesn’t open NMM. When I run NMM again, same dialog box, click OK, same effect, so I can’t get into NMM to change the game.
What step am I missing here?

No one has figured out a way to fix this. just installed Fallout 3 had skyrim and DA2 loaded.. now I get this error with latest NMM. anyone?
Pretty sure I’ve cracked it. Never been on this forum before but I couldn’t find an answer and I by accident figured what I’m sure the problem is. Steam’s directory and stuff is in the (x86) Program Files folder but Nexus’ is in the normal Program Files folder. Cut and Paste the Nexus program files folder into the (x86) folder and then try again. This fixed it for me, hope it does the same for everybody else.
